Dance This

Seattle, Washington

This teen training and performance program in cultural, classical and contemporary dance, reaches inner-city youth, ages 13-18. The program brings together dancers in traditional cultural dance, such as African, Cambodian, Indian and Korean, with dancers in classical and contemporary forms, such as Break, Hip-Hop, Modern, Ballet and Tap. Past resident master artists have included Savion Glover, Abdel Salam of Forces of Nature, members of the Joffrey Ballet and Bahiyah Sayyed-Gaines of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.

Toni's Dance Compay Inc.

Detroit, Michigan

This professional dance company was founded in Detroit in 2005. Company dancers will perform for several events, including concerts, commercials, as artist back-ups and more, in Detroit and beyond. The group consists of 19 dancers, but they would like to expand into three dance companies after auditions.

NC Clogging Challenge

North Carolina

This will be the fourth year of this event. Last year, the event played host to 149 teams, 64 duos, and more than 200 individual dancers. These dancers came from six different states and range in age from 4 to 64.

S.O.D.A. POPS

Daytona, FL

S.O.D.A POPS is a group of dancers ranging in age from 5 to 21 in any given year. They perform as a group around 30 times per season in their local and extended area. All dancers alternate between doing a "Competitive Year" and a "Touring Year." In 1989, the S.O.D.A POPS traveled to Russia, and in 1999 to the Peoples of Republic of China, both cultural exchanges with those respective governments in conjunction with performing arts organizations. The S.O.D.A POPS acted as Cultural Ambassadors for the U.S.A

Gallia Leads Dance

Gallia, OH

This county school program allows children to stay two hours after school and get an hour of course work help and one hour of arts. This program is in a rural area, and most of the children would never be able to take class on their own because of financial reasons. This program gives these children the gift of experiencing dance.

Hope School

Anaheim, CA

Hope School is one of the alternative programs offered in the Anaheim Union High School District in Anaheim, CA. Students attend Hope School when a traditional academic program does not meet their needs. They follow a modified curriculum that is in line with state standards. All of the children have some type of disability and are classified as severely handicapped. This year, Hope School started a tap class. Not only have the children been enjoying the class, but their level of expertise and enthusiasm is remarkable.

International Ballet Exchange

Philadelphia, PA

This is a non-profit program that has a ballet residency program in two inner-city high schools in Philadelphia.
